Dear Sirs
Our Energy Challenge – Securing clean, affordable energy for the long term
The Coal Authority is a non departmental public body established by Parliament to undertake specific statutory duties as set out in the Coal Industry Act 1994. The Authority is the owner of the unworked coal and mines of coal in the United Kingdom and regulates certain activities of mining operators to whom it grants operating licences.
This response takes into account the views of the Authority following a series of discussions at senior level. The questions on which the consultation seeks responses are dealt with separately in Annex 1 to the response.
Yours faithfully,
John Delaney
Corporate Affairs Manager
