Pumping trials phase two

Continuing research into the underground water regime is taking place within the former coal mine workings of Durham.

Controlled trials to establish water flow patterns are expanding to the area surrounding Nicholsons Pumping Station and will add to the information which continues to be obtained from Ushaw Moor.

The carefully planned investigations, which are being carried out under The Coal Authority's strict control after consultation with the Environment Agency and Durham County Council, will enable more information about underground movement of water in the area to be compiled.
