Gas utilisation

The Coal Authority continues to assist operators to explore ways of converting gases from former colliery sites into friendly forms of energy.

Coal Gas UK have successfully completed trials on the commercial viability of gas flows at Markham, Steetly and Shirebrook, and are now closely looking at possible methods of utilising this gas as a commercial basis.

"At the Coal Authority's Hem Heath Colliery, demolition is now in progress and consideration has been given to the future utilisation of mine gas which is currently being emitted from one of the shafts", says Assistant Property Manager Martin Law.
