Saving waste

Staff at the Coal Authority are working hard to save waste paper, which can be recycled and used to produce energy-efficient products, such as loft insulation materials.

Recycling paper is one of a series of measures being taken to cut down on waste. Others include using E-mail in preference to paper, avoiding unnecessary photocopies, turning off equipment and lighting when it is not in use and re-using packaging and toner cartridges.

Promoting sound environmental office practice is one of the Authority's Environmental Objectives. Targets for this year involve raising staff awareness of the Government Hierarchy for Waste Management - Reduce - Reuse - Recycle - Dispose.

This has successfully been achieved, and staff are placing used paper and other 'clean' paper products in a series of Big Bins, which have been provided in each department.
