A winding up order was made against Hatfield Coal Company Limited on 13 August 2001 and the Official Receiver is liquidator of the company. The Official Receiver has disclaimed the lease for the underground workings of the Hatfield Coal Mine. However, the freehold of the mine surface currently remains the property of the company.
As the custodian of the Nation's coal resource the Coal Authority wishes to establish whether there are alternative operators capable of exploiting the block of coal accessed via the Hatfield shafts either on its own or in association with adjacent coals.
To this end the Coal Authority has arranged for the Hatfield mine to remain open for a short period on a care and maintenance basis.
All expressions of interest in the Hatfield Mine must be accompanied by a clear statement of the financial provisions required to give them effect.
