Expressions of Interest for Prince of wales Colliery

The Coal Authority has been informed by UK Coal Mining Ltd of its intended closure of Prince of Wales Colliery, Pontefract, West Yorkshire.

Prince of Wales Colliery operates under a licence issued under Part II of the Coal Industry Act 1994 and a 99 year lease for the coal. Freehold surface land and colliery plant and equipment are owned by UK Coal.

UK Coal has stated that it intends to cease coal production at Prince of Wales in September 2002. UK Coal has also advised the Authority that it is willing to consider approaches from other prospective operators of sufficient financial standing (having regard to the investment requirements of the mine) with a genuine interest in continuing production at the mine.
