Field Inspector - East Midlands Region
Working from home, the post will be located in the East Midlands. Salary range £21,521 - £30,583 + Performance Bonus, Civil Service Pension Options, Generous Holidays, Payment of Professional Fees and Company Vehicle.
The Authority is seeking to recruit a home based Field Inspector to cover its mine entry inspection programme in the East Midlands region which covers the coalfields of Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Yorkshire.
The applicant will work in the Public Safety and Communication team which deals with public safety issues associated with coal mining across the coalfield areas of England, Scotland and Wales, and the communication of these issues to the general public and other organisations. These issues result from sudden ground collapses, mine entry collapses, emissions of water or gas, subsidence claims to land and buildings and occasionally spontaneous combustion of coal. As part of a more proactive approach the Authority is also undertaking a series of public safety initiatives, the role of the Field Inspector will be key in delivering elements of this work. The nature of this role requires flexibility in the time worked which may involve evenings and weekends.
About the role:
The post holder will be responsible for:
- Undertaking the inspection of mine entries in accordance with the Authority's public safety objectives throughout a designated geographical region.
- Ensuring that public safety issues arising from the inspections are immediately addressed.
- Acting as the Authority's field representative interfacing with the public and other bodies.
- Undertaking such field related tasks as required including inspections of other properties.
- Providing support to other regionally based staff in the management of coal mining hazard and subsidence projects.
The ideal candidate will have:
- Significant experience with a mining, surveying, building or civil engineering background.
- The ability to competently communicate with the general public, Local Authorities and other professional organisations
- Exceptional decision making, negotiating and organisation skills
- A sound level of IT literacy.
