Regional Engineer - Public Safety & Subsidence

Working from home covering the North West area. Salary range £30,283 to £40,777 + Civil Service Pension Options and Company Vehicle.

The Public Safety and Subsidence team comprises a body of engineers and project managers, who deal with over 1,000 projects on an annual basis associated with coal mining related hazards and subsidence claims across the coalfield areas of England, Scotland and Wales.

The successful candidate will work as a regional engineer on projects including sudden ground collapses, mine entry collapses, emissions of water or gas, subsidence claims to land and buildings and occasionally spontaneous combustion of coal, all of which are associated with former mine workings.


The ideal candidate will have:

  • A degree or equivalent together with corporate membership of a professional body (Surveying, Civil or Mining Engineering)
  • Knowledge of building construction and repair
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • The ability to competently communicate with the general public, Local Authorities and other professional organisations
  • Exceptional decision making, negotiating and organisation skills
  • Experience in the management and supervision of consultants and contractors
  • Working knowledge of Health, Safety and Environmental issues
  • A sound level of IT literacy
