Vacant Position: Assistant Engineer (Minewater Operations)
Salary range £17,680 to £21,203 + Performance Bonus, Civil Service Pension Options, Generous Holidays, Payment of Professional Fees
The Coal Authority is a Non-Departmental Public Body (NDPB) which reports to the Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC). One of its main duties is to manage the historic environmental legacy from past coal mining. The Minewater Operations team manage over 50 pumping and water treatment sites throughout the coalfield areas of England, Scotland and Wales, which collectively clean up over 400,000m3 of grossly polluted mine water every day. The operation is part of the Authority’s long term Minewater Remediation Programme with more new treatment schemes being added to the portfolio every year.
Working in a small team, you will assist our Operations Engineers in the effective and efficient management of the sites in conjunction with our contractor partners Integrated Water Services Ltd.
The role involves collecting, collating and analysing data to advise and produce reports on asset performance, together with liaison with contractors in respect of site inspection, maintenance and repair activities and costs. In particular, electricity use, energy efficiency and carbon recording and reporting will be central to the role. Although based at our Mansfield Headquarters, the role will involve periodic travel throughout England, Scotland and Wales.
The ideal candidate will have:-
- A sound educational base with some experience in a support role in an operations environment
- HNC/HND in an appropriate discipline (ideally mechanical or electrical engineering)
- A good level of IT literacy, particularly in MS Excel
- Proven abilities to analyse, collate and present large amounts of data
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and be a good team player
