Information Fair Trader Scheme (IFTS)
The Information Fair Trader Scheme (IFTS) sets and assesses standards for public sector bodies. It requires them to encourage the re-use of information and reach a standard of fairness and transparency.
IFTS ensures that re-users of public sector information can be confident that they will be treated reasonably and fairly by public sector information providers. All Crown bodies who have been given a licensing delegation by the Stationery Office must join the Scheme, but it is open to most public sector organisations to join voluntarily.
In order to be recognised as an Information Fair Trader, an organisation will need to:
- Make a commitment to fair trader principles
and - See the commitment independently verified
and -
Investigate complaints that the commitment has not been met.
As a Non-Departmental Public Body there is no mandatory requirement on the Coal Authority to join the Scheme. However, in order to demonstrate its commitment to fair information trading, the Chief Executive of the Coal Authority has voluntarily agreed for the organisation to be assessed for accreditation by the Office of Public Sector Information
(OPSI) - please view our Statement of Commitment.
